At Brightfield Academy, we believe that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn and grow. We believe in a collaborative and individualized approach to education that meets the unique needs of each child. This graphic shows the three main areas which inform our personalised learning programmes.

Brightfield Academy is a specialist alternative provision where every young person is recognised as an individual, not a number. We provide personalised education for children and young people whose needs are not always met within mainstream settings, creating learning experiences that unlock confidence, potential and opportunity.
Rather than expecting learners to fit a predetermined model, we shape education around them. By understanding each individual's strengths, aspirations, interests and additional needs, we develop programmes that are engaging, purposeful and designed to help them succeed.
Our provision is built around three interconnected foundations:
Education
Developing knowledge, qualifications, skills and confidence through personalised academic and vocational learning.
Wellbeing
Promoting emotional resilience, positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging within a safe, nurturing environment.
Enrichment
Broadening horizons through practical experiences, creativity, outdoor learning, enterprise, sport and opportunities that prepare young people for life beyond the classroom.
At Brightfield Academy, we believe that lasting progress begins when young people feel safe, valued and understood. Through trauma-informed practice, high expectations and genuine encouragement, we help learners rediscover a love of learning, build resilience and develop the confidence to achieve their ambitions.
Working in partnership with families, schools, local authorities and other professionals, we create realistic, meaningful pathways for every learner. Whether the goal is reintegration into mainstream education, progression to further education or employment, or developing the skills needed for greater independence, Brightfield Academy is committed to helping every young person move forward with confidence.
Inclusion. Choice. Growth.

In theory - ANY young person! But to make it a little more specific...
Brightfield Academy welcomes children and young people aged 5 to 18 who would benefit from a more personalised, supportive and flexible approach to education.
Our provision is designed for learners whose needs cannot currently be fully met within a traditional school environment. We recognise that every young person's circumstances are unique, and we tailor our support accordingly.
We work with learners who may:
Whether a young person has become disengaged from education, requires specialist support to overcome barriers to learning, or simply flourishes in a smaller, more individualised setting, Brightfield Academy provides an environment where they can feel safe, valued and able to succeed.
Our programmes are carefully planned to develop academic achievement, personal wellbeing, life skills and independence, enabling every learner to make meaningful progress towards their next destination.

Brightfield Academy accepts referrals from:
Every referral is considered individually to ensure we can provide the right level of support and create a programme that best meets the learner's needs.

Every learner who joins Brightfield Academy follows a personalised pathway designed around their individual needs, abilities, interests and aspirations. We recognise that no two young people are the same, so neither are our programmes.
Working closely with learners, families, schools and local authorities, we create flexible timetables that combine education, wellbeing and enrichment to provide meaningful opportunities for progress and personal growth.
Our personalised curriculum provides opportunities to develop essential knowledge, skills and qualifications while building confidence in learning. Depending on individual needs, programmes may include:
Young people learn best when they feel safe, understood and supported. Our nurturing, trauma-informed approach helps learners develop the confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing needed to thrive.
Our wellbeing provision includes:
Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our enrichment programme encourages curiosity, creativity and real-world experiences that help young people discover new interests, develop practical skills and build aspirations for the future.
Opportunities may include:
Every programme is reviewed regularly and adapted as each learner grows in confidence and capability. Whether the aim is successful reintegration into mainstream education, progression into specialist provision, further education, employment or greater independence, we provide a clear pathway towards positive outcomes.
At Brightfield Academy, education is never about expecting young people to fit a predetermined system. Instead, we create an environment where learning is shaped around the individual, enabling every learner to flourish in their own way.

Brightfield Academy was founded on a simple belief:
Every young person deserves an education that recognises who they are, not just what they achieve.
We know that many learners have experienced environments where they have struggled to thrive, lost confidence or felt that education simply wasn't designed for them. Our role is not to ask young people to fit a system, but to create a learning experience that works for the individual.
Every learner arrives with their own strengths, challenges, interests and aspirations. We take time to understand these before designing a personalised programme that reflects who they are and where they want to go.
By building on a young person's natural interests and talents, we create learning that is meaningful, motivating and purposeful. Engagement grows when education feels relevant, and progress follows when learners feel empowered to succeed.
Success is about much more than qualifications alone. Alongside academic learning, we place equal importance on developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for adult life.
Learners have opportunities to develop:
Our aim is to help every young person leave Brightfield better prepared for education, employment and independent living.
Education should always lead somewhere meaningful.
Brightfield Academy is developing strong partnerships with colleges, training providers, employers and specialist organisations to create genuine opportunities beyond our provision.
These partnerships help learners access:
Every learner's journey is different, and we work alongside them to identify the pathway that best matches their ambitions and potential.
Positive outcomes are achieved through strong partnerships. We work collaboratively with families, schools, local authorities and other professionals to ensure each learner receives consistent, joined-up support.
By sharing knowledge, setting clear goals and maintaining open communication, we create an environment where young people can make lasting progress academically, socially and emotionally.
At Brightfield Academy, we don't measure success solely by examination results. We measure it by renewed confidence, improved wellbeing, meaningful progress and brighter futures.
Everything begins with one important question:
"What does this young person need to flourish?"
The answer to that question shapes everything we do.

No two learners at Brightfield Academy follow exactly the same timetable.
Every programme is carefully designed to reflect the individual's educational needs, wellbeing, interests and future aspirations. Rather than following a standard weekly schedule, we create a balanced learning experience that gives each young person the greatest opportunity to succeed.
Before a programme begins, we take time to build a clear picture of the young person through discussions with families, schools, local authorities and other professionals, alongside our own assessment and observation.
This helps us understand:
Using this information, we develop a timetable that brings together the three pillars of Brightfield Academy:
Education
Academic learning, functional skills, project-based learning and accredited opportunities where appropriate.
Wellbeing
Pastoral support, emotional development, relationship building and strategies that promote resilience and confidence.
Enrichment
Creative, vocational, practical and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, independence and real-world learning.
The balance between these areas is different for every learner and is determined by what will best support their progress.
Some young people benefit from a gradual, carefully managed introduction to learning, while others are ready to engage in a broader programme from the beginning. We recognise that progress is rarely a straight line, so our timetables remain flexible and responsive throughout a learner's journey.
Programmes are reviewed regularly and adapted to reflect changing needs, achievements and ambitions, ensuring that each learner continues to receive the right support at the right time.
As confidence develops and goals evolve, so does the timetable. New opportunities, increased independence and greater challenge are introduced at an appropriate pace, helping every young person move steadily towards their next stage in education, training, employment or adult life.
At Brightfield Academy, a timetable is far more than a schedule. It is a carefully planned pathway that grows alongside each learner, providing the structure, flexibility and opportunities they need to flourish.

At Brightfield Academy, safeguarding is more than a legal responsibility. It is the foundation upon which every relationship, every decision and every learning experience is built.
We are committed to creating an environment where every child and young person feels safe, respected, valued and able to thrive. Our safeguarding culture promotes openness, trust and accountability, ensuring that the welfare of our learners is always our highest priority.
Every member of our team shares responsibility for safeguarding. We encourage a culture where concerns are recognised early, listened to carefully and responded to promptly, ensuring that every young person receives the support they need.
Our safeguarding arrangements include:
We are committed to ensuring that every adult working with our learners is suitable for their role.
Our recruitment procedures include:
Creating a safe environment extends beyond safeguarding alone. We maintain comprehensive arrangements to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone within our community.
This includes:
Brightfield Academy maintains a comprehensive suite of policies covering safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety, equality, online safety, data protection, safer recruitment and staff conduct.
Our policies are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain fully aligned with current legislation, national guidance and recognised best practice.
Safeguarding is not simply about procedures. It is about creating an environment where young people know they will be listened to, respected and supported.
We strive to build positive, consistent relationships in which learners feel confident to share worries, celebrate successes and seek help whenever they need it. By combining high professional standards with genuine care and compassion, we create a community where every young person can learn, develop and flourish with confidence.
At Brightfield Academy, safeguarding is woven into everything we do because every child deserves to feel safe before they can truly succeed.
Inclusion. Choice. Growth.
